    Perfect timing (changing job)

Hi everyone, I wonder if you could help me. I want to change my job next year. My current contract expires in the end of August 2016 so I would like to start my new job in September 2016 or a little later if necessary. Let's suppose I can find a suitable job. When I should start dealing with all formalities? I mean changing my visa, residence permit, signing contract with my new employer etc. My current employer will be informed about my plans on time (they must know 5 month before I leave them (otherwise I must pay quite a lot), but they always start asking me about my plans for the next year much earlier and not just asking, if I say I want to continue, I have to sign new contract for much ahead). It would be my first time changing job in China, after few years of working for one company, and I would like everything to go as smoothly as possible...Thank you in advance.

you are under no obligation to remain with your current employer if you don't want to at the end of your contract.

If they want you to remain, ask them what additional pay/benefits they are going to give you to stay.

at least look as if you are willing to negotiate - although you have no intention to.

    get another job asap.

even if you like to play fair, your employer probably won't.

but definitely have a job lined up before the end of your contract.

are you sure you have the dates right?

you are looking for a job this year - 2015, or next year - 2016?

if you are talking about next year - 2016 - you are thinking way to far ahead.

no-one is hiring now for September 2016

if your current employer is asking about September next year - that is just weird and way to soon: sure they barely know the dates of this years public holidays.

Provision of 'telling your School 5m in advance of renewing Contract or no' is fishy.

That is impossible, because you must sign Contract with new School, in order to be sure you'll leave your present employer.

I've never signed new Contract earlier than 15 days before RP expiration.

But as above, you should get new job first with Contract sign.

Just tell them 'probably, I won't renew the Contract. I have desire to see more different cities in China' and similar.
